Candle Safety and Maintenance
Soy wax candles are becoming increasingly popular thanks to their natural ingredients, long burn time, and subtle fragrance. To fully enjoy the benefits of soy wax candles and ensure their longevity, it’s important to follow a few simple rules for use and care.
First Burn of the Candle
Full Burn Time: For the first burn of a soy wax candle, allow it to burn for at least 2–3 hours or until the entire surface has melted. This prevents “tunneling” and ensures an even burn in the future.
Regular Wick Trimming
Wick Trimming: Before each use, trim the wick to about 5 mm. This prevents excessive smoke, soot, and rapid wax consumption.
Safe Use
Stable Surface: Place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, children, and pets.
Never Leave Unattended: Never leave a burning candle unattended. Make sure to extinguish it when leaving the room or going to bed.
Safety Distance: Keep a lit candle at least 10 cm away from other flammable objects.
Burning and Extinguishing the Candle
Burn Time: Avoid burning the candle for more than 3 hours at a time to prevent the wax from overheating.
Extinguishing the Candle: Use a snuffer or a lid to extinguish the flame. Avoid blowing it out, as this can cause smoke and wax splatter.
Candle Care
Removing Wick Debris: After each burn, remove any wick debris from the wax surface to maintain clarity and cleanliness.
Candle Storage: Store candles in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. This preserves their properties and fragrance longer.
Eco-Friendly Aspects
Reuse of Residue: Once the candle has burned out, leftover wax can be used in a wax warmer or to make new candles. The glass container can be reused or recycled.
Common Issues and Solutions
Tunneling: If tunneling starts to form, wrap aluminum foil around the top of the container, leaving an opening in the center. Let it burn for a few hours until the surface is fully melted.
Sooting: If the candle starts to produce soot, trim the wick and ensure it is not burning in a draft.
Following these simple guidelines will help you fully enjoy the beauty and aroma of soy wax candles while ensuring their longevity and safety.
